FILM ANALYSIS ESSAY

You will choose a film dealing with the chosen world affair. Once you watched it write an essay about it.

Film analysis is not the same thing as writing a movie review, which involves passively watching a movie. An analysis means you must engage on a level beyond that of storytelling.
Film analysis is the process in which a chosen film is analyzed in terms of its content, its context, its thematical ideas, its cinematographical resources. Here there is a more detailed squeme:

Step 1 Film's Datasheet
Watch the movie. Take notes and be ready to pause and rewind.                  Introduce the film and its participants, such as the actors and director.           Provide a brief overview of the story. Reveal the plot, go to the main points.  Do not loose yourself in unrelevant details. http://www.imdb.com/, http://www.filmaffinity.com/es/
Step 2 Historical Context
Look for information about the historical period, the current events or about any other information that can be useful to understand better the film.
Step 3 Thematic Analysis
Engage critically in the movie theme, so you can produce a strong essay.     Focus on a interesting thematic concept related to the film. Expand the theme with your own personal point of view.
Step 4 Cinematic Analysis
Comment on relevant cinematographic aspects, how the director is telling us the story, which kind of resources he uses to make the story more apealling.
Step 5 Conclusion
Write your film analysis with the movie at hand. Writing an effective film analysis is best accomplished if you don’t have to rely on your memory of events, dialogue or cinematic techniques. Finish with a summary of the most interesting points of the film and if posible add a personal conclusion.

Day of Europe

We did a Quiz on Europe
For the day of Europe we created a Questionnaire about the European Union.
The 9th of May during the break of DBH we offer them to fill a 14 multiple choice questionnaire. We offered a prize in material for the school.
It is not very popular to distract them from playing around, but we got 62 answers, which was not bad!
We must recognize that most of them did it very well with an average of 9-10 correct answers. We had two top scores!

Try it yourself!

Exhibition

1. Exhibition on European Citizens' Rights

·        We thought it would be a good idea to organize an Exhibition on European Citizens’ Rights. We did draw some posters that summarized the idea behind every law and we made next small exhibition in which at a glance our fellow students can know which are the rights we have as European citizens.

Irish Visit

Our Irish friends came to visit us, as part of the exchange we have with Wilson's Hospital School. They came a week ago and left yesterday.

We really enjoyed their company and we tried to be good guests.
The weather was so so, but good enough to enjoy the beach and visit San Sebastian
The activities we did with them; were the visits to Peace and City museums, the trip to Gernika, climbing Igeldo and the farewel dinner. We did some workshops too!

  A Chat with foreign students

Another activity we had was to put them in contact with younger students. We took irish students to 4th DBH level students to have a chat in small groups with our exchange partners, in addition to practicing their English, they had the opportunity to learn about the way of life in Ireland and the differences between our educational systems.

A Big Challenge for the Future: Sustainability!

We are dealing with  Sustainability, to learn about the subject we take advantage of the work our fellow students from 'European and International Studies' made last year on the subject.
They created a Wiki on the main aspects of this Challenge:

Then in couples we did choose a subject of our interest to develop in the digital format we wanted.

Luberri loves Ireland

We love this opportunity  to do an exchange with our partner school Wilson's from Multyfarham. We had been doing it for the last four years and every year we had the opportunity to enjoy the hospitality of our Irish friends.

We are very happy to keep the contact with this school, where our students not only can learn about a different European culture and meet new people, but also can improve their language skills.

Here is a Blog about our trip:

FAIR TRADE

  Fair Trade workshop with "Emaus"

We are studing about the NGOs: their aims, their work, their means... So we decided to have a first hand contact with one of them: EMAUS

Last year we did work with Emaus, the experience was really positive so we contacted them again. So this year we are also working together.
They proposed us to do a workshop on Fair Trade. It did cover three class sessions, here it is last years work plan for the activity:

First of all an introduction session where they explained us the basics of the Fair Trade, Caroline a german volunteer gave us Emaus vision on Consumerism and we debated over the subject.

On a second session Alberto and Caroline explained the relation between 'Emaus' and TARA PROJECT
Here it is a presentation we made on the subject.

 Tara project's presentation

Afterwards students proposed questions for the interview:

On the last session we contacted with Tara project in India, we had a video-conference (Skype ) with a responsible for Tara project in India. Our students made the questions to the daughter of the founder, Mrs. Moon Sharma:

She  told us that Tara's main objective is to help craft workers achieve self-sufficiency by providing them with the income-generating opportunities and developing their marketing skills. But not only that but also was important to improve access to health, education and economic opportunity for chronically poor communities. She explained us that their work helps not only individuals but also the group. They think that through their projects they help to create a more prosperous and sustainable future for those communities. She commented that working with Emaus helped them to be more conscious on the sustainability aspect, that they are happy with this relation.
Answering students questions she talked about their work helping artisans in having a dignify life not only did they paid them sufficient salary but they help them in a broader sense, empowering the community as they think this is the only way to finish with poverty. She told us about their interest in helping women not only to finish with their secular discrimination in Indian society but also as a way to help the group.
About students worries on what they do with the money they gain through fair trade, she insisted on Tara's compromise in using all public donations on their projects, she pointed out their low administrative costs and the benefices to the community.

We thank her for their time and interest and told her goodbye.

Once we made the questions, we discussed on the activity and we though about doing something practical.

We Want to Be Comenius

On Monday January 27th we had a meeting in San Sebastian to agree about the final points on a new Comenius program. As IT is going to be one of the pillars of the project here is this post to point out the tools we are going to be using.

But first of all here is our School presentation

- A presentacion of our school

But we are six different schools involve in the project, you can learn about them with next interactive poster.

And now the project, Educational systems in Europe (student's perspective)

- Here I will add the project's form in a Magazine format, once I have the final version.

We had a very productive day, we worked hard from 08:30. to 18:00.
We discussed most of the points.

That day we had high waves in San Sebastian, a beautiful natural spectacle. As we missed it (we are  such a  responsible bunch of teachers) I went next day to take some pics (another presentation model)

Click in next link to see the presentation.
        Rough Sea

Later in the evening we had a fraternizing dinner and we talked about  possible activities to add to the project.

An Example:
First click on the minus " -" of the map and then on  your countries blue label.

An evaluation questionnaire for us  to finish with.
We can fill it up to improve our meetings.

.

For the diffusion we have an article in the local newspaper.
Here is the link:

Thank you Any, Dénes, Rosemary, Heidi, Michael & Andrea and thank you to everybody in Antigua-Luberri for a nice and enjoyable meeting.

Even if they do not accept the project it was worth the effort.
